Online Tutoring at ABC Nannies

ABC Nanny Services are here to help during the COVID-19 social distancing & self isolation.

We provide personalised online tutoring led by qualified teachers and tutors, and are here to help your children continue to get an education during this time, whether it is through completing distance learning activities, set tests, or homework.

All children can be catered for. If you don’t see an option here that may be exactly appropriate for your child, please get in touch and discuss it with us.

  • 1 on 1 sessions of up to 45 minutes for children with learning difficulties (Dyslexia, ADHD etc). These sessions are the equivalent of Reading Recovery breaks the child may have been receiving at school, and are with a suitably qualified teacher. They are intended to break down, revise and go through recent lessons.
  • Group sessions. These use video chat and are typically intended around homework advice, and/or help with assigned work, as well as the option for structured lessons. Not only a purely educational space, group sessions give your child the opportunity to interact with other children in a structured online educational group setting whilst completing their school work.
    • 1 on 1 tutoring session of up to 30 minutes for younger children (Kindergarten to year 3) on video chat
    • Group sessions of up to 45 minutes. These can contain up to 3-4 students (7-12 years old)
    • Group sessions of up to 1 hour. These can contain up to 5-6 students (13+)
  • Mentoring advice for older siblings to help the younger ones. Mentoring can come quite naturally for some children to help their brothers and sisters, whilst other benefit from learning about it in a more structured way. Either way, we can help define or refine this so that everyone can contribute equitably.

As with our nannies, our teachers and tutors are highly qualified and experienced. Both teachers and tutors are available for most subjects, however we may recommend one more than the other depending on your child’s age and requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does tutoring work? Do I have to have new technology?

Our tutors/teachers will use Zoom and therefore there is no need to download any new software for your lessons with us. The sessions will be live and in real time. You will need a PC/laptop with internet connection.

Do remember to write in the notes section provided what you would like your child to focus on, and if there are any resources they are using.

What if my child gets distracted in an online platform? How do you ensure the lessons are effective/productive?

Most children of all ages respond very well to working with their personal tutor on the online platform, as most of them use a similar technology at school. Our personalised methods/styles of tutoring coupled with regular feedback/reporting after each lesson provide students and parents confidence in their booked sessions.

Is online tutoring as effective as face to face tutoring?

In this current climate, it is even better! Apart from the obvious benefits of social distancing or self-isolation. It offers children a focus in routine and gives them access to highly qualified tutors/teachers with a live one on one interactive platform to learn via.

You also have the flexibility and control of when tutoring sessions are booked. E.g. in the morning when your child may be more energised.

Are booked sessions with a group, or are they 1 on 1?

We offer a range of approaches to suit each individual child. Some respond better with a small group situation whilst others prefer 1 on 1. You can always change the style of session if you feel your child’s needs have changed.

What if my child will not sit and do the session?

We recommend for K-Y2, that you sit in the first few sessions with your child to help them get accustomed to their new method of learning.

Are tutoring sessions interactive or will children be watching a screen?

All our sessions are interactive. The sessions will be discussion lead and tutors will engage with children/students. The contents that student/parents wish to cover during booked sessions are to be detailed in the NOTES section during booking.

How do the video calls work with tutors/teachers?

Once ABC Tutoring Services receive your booking confirmation, one of our qualified tutors/teachers will follow up with you by sending you a link for your zoom video link.

This link will be to start the video call at the booked time.

How do I send the work my child has done, or needs to complete?

You can upload any relevant work or set assignments via ABC Nanny Services website………………. Before the sessions begin, please remember to save your file under your child’s name or the tutor/teacher’s name.

There is also the facility to share screen during the booked sessions.

Can I book a tutor/teacher whenever I need one?

Yes, simply browse through the subjects, ages group and select the available time slots. It is as straight forward as that.

How many lessons/sessions will I need to book per week?

There is no minimum amount of lessons per week although we will recommend you book at least 1 per week to keep structure and routine for your child.

What happens if I make a booking and want to cancel it later?

No problem at all, simply give us 24 hours notice and we will be able to provide a full refund. If the notice is under 24 hours, we are happy to reschedule your booked session for another date and time, FREE of charge. All you have to do is email us to reschedule.

How can I guarantee the safety of my child?

All teachers/tutors are qualified and have police checks, W.W.C.C’s and a minimum of 2 years + paid experience.

Can we change tutors if my child doesn’t get on with the tutor?

Yes you certainly can. Both tutors and parents reserve the right to change their minds.
